TEAM NEWS: Blackforest Mustang GT ready for VIR GT Showdown; Tagliani back for another ride in racing's meanest Mustang
Photo by John Thawley Alton, VA (65 April 2007)- Alex Tagliani and Tom Nastasi will co-drive the USG Sheetrock/Guardian Insulation Ford Mustang Cobra GT this weekend at Virginia International Raceway as the Rolex Sports Car Series reconvenes for round four of the 2007 season. The VIR round will feature the first GT-class-only race of the year, with the seventy-seven lap event going green at 4:30 on Saturday afternoon.
Despite being an all-new entry, the Blackforest-prepared Mustang GT-class entry has shown impressive speed in each of its initial outings this season, but the team is looking to convert that speed into a strong result this weekend.
The VIR event is not the first time Tagliani, who is fourth in the Champ Car standings after the first three races of the season, has competed on the 3.27-mile natural terrain road course in Virginia. "Tags" raced a Mustang FR500C in the 2006 KONI Challenge season-finale. His co-driver Nastasi is on a hot streak of his own, having piloted a Mustang to Victory Lane in the opening three races of the KONI Challenge season.
The GT race will be shown on a tape-delay basis April 28th @ 8:30 PM on Speed Channel.
The USG Sheetrock/Guardian Insulation Ford Mustang Cobra GT rides on a Crawford chassis and utilizes Roush/Yates power. The Rolex Sports Car Series GT Class is contested by a range of production-based sports car entries, from the Porsche GT3 Cup to the Pontiac GXP.
